Simon got off to a good start on Friday morning after he was 2nd in session 1, he was rather happy with his cars handling. Session 2 Simon pushed hard as he now knew the tracks grip level, he managed to set the quickest time of the session a 1:11,012. In the 3rd and final session his 2nd gear broke and sensible he parked the car and the team did an excellent job fixing his gearbox for qualifying. He also had to bled brake pads in the last session however he was not able to bled them in correctly due to gearbox problems on lap 3. Simon had to go into qualifying with half bed pads which cost him a valuable 3 laps in the session. On lap 4 yellow flags came out so Simon wisely took it easy to prevent any penalties, because he had an experience from the F/BMW series where there were yellow flags in qualifying and he was awarded a penalty for not slowing down. So this was without doubt in the back of his mind. After all his troubles in qualifying Simon did a good job to put his car on 3rd position for race one and 2nd position for race 2.

Race one

Simon was in his starting block in 3rd position, looking into the rear of Wesleigh Orr’s car. As the light’s when out Simon shot across the track and had an excellent start to overtake Tasmin Pepper in the first turn from there on Wesleigh had a gap of 2 seconds on Simon, with the fighting spirit Simon has he never gave up and pursuit a chase on Orr, Moss was closing the gap rapidly and the mistakes were becoming noticeable by Orr who was pushing hard and looks as if he was on the edge just as Simon was. With 2 laps remaining the gap had come down to 1.1 from 2 seconds. Simon unfortunately didn’t have enough laps in the race to chase down the leader so he had to snatch 2nd position for race 1, he did however earn the fasters time of the race setting a time of 1:10, 42

Race 2

In race 2 Simon was second on the grid he was adamant that this was going to be his race, before the race he had already planned his manoover on Orr through turn 1. Just as he said, he had a great start and carried his momentum through to turn 1 on the edge maximising his breaks he out braked and the held it around the outside of the Karting World Champion Wesleigh Orr to take the lead. From there on Simon never looked back as he had a rather big gap over second place. Once Simon hit the front he conserved his tyres and cruised to victory.

Simon is now leading the F/VW Championship, on joint points with Orr however Simon is the official leader as they both have 2 wins but Moss has 2 seconds and Orr only has 1 second and a third.

Looking for a hum dinger in Round 3 of the WSS in Phakisa
